This proposal for a bridge would create pedestrian connections from Buckingham Fountain to the waterfront over Lakeshore Drive in Chicago.

Local Positioning System
Due to its unique position at both the center and the edge of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain has strong visual orientations to several other landmarks in Chicago. The Lake Shore Crossing uses those physical, visual, and symbolic orientations to configure a new network of paths at Chicago’s edge.

Network of Associations
Each path is a virtual connection to a landmark in the near distance: Navy Pier, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Sears Tower. The proposal also features two circuits. The lower circuit is shorter and dedicated to pedestrian use. The upper circuit is longer and its curves allow for the speed of bicycles, roller blades, skate boards, etc.
